Modern Slavery Statement

Gardeners Nunhead Modern Slavery Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the actions taken by Gardeners Nunhead to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We recognise that modern slavery is a serious crime and a fundamental violation of human rights. We are committed to conducting our business ethically, transparently, and in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relating to labour and human rights.

Gardeners Nunhead provides gardening and related services and works with a range of suppliers, contractors, and partners to support our activities. We acknowledge that every business has a responsibility to be vigilant in identifying and addressing the risks of exploitation and we take this responsibility seriously.

Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery

Gardeners Nunhead operates a strict zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking in any form. This applies to all individuals working for or on behalf of the business at all levels, including employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers.

We do not tolerate any practices that involve forced labour, bonded or involuntary labour, servitude, child labour that is illegal or exploitative, or any form of trafficking of persons for the purpose of exploitation. Any breach of this policy by staff may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Any supplier or contractor found to be involved in modern slavery will face remedial action, including possible termination of their contract.

Our Supply Chain Standards

We expect all our suppliers and business partners to share our commitment to respecting human rights and preventing modern slavery. As part of our procurement process, we seek to work with reputable suppliers who can demonstrate alignment with our values and standards.

Our expectations are communicated through our purchasing arrangements and supplier discussions. We expect suppliers to comply with all relevant labour laws, ensure safe and fair working conditions, pay at least the legal minimum wage applicable in their jurisdiction, and prohibit any form of coercion or exploitation.

Supplier Audits and Due Diligence

Gardeners Nunhead is developing and implementing proportionate due diligence processes to assess and manage the risk of modern slavery within our supply chains. These processes include supplier assessments and audits where appropriate, particularly for higher risk categories of goods or services.

We review selected suppliers to confirm that they have suitable policies, governance, and practices in place to prevent modern slavery. Where necessary, we may request evidence of compliance, such as written policies, training records, or information about labour practices. If we identify concerns, we will work with the supplier to address issues through corrective actions and follow-up checks. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to meet our standards, we will consider alternative arrangements.

Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing

Gardeners Nunhead encourages openness and supports anyone who raises genuine concerns about suspected modern slavery in any part of our business or supply chain. We will not tolerate retaliation against any individual who reports a concern in good faith.

Employees, contractors, and other stakeholders are encouraged to raise any concerns about unethical behaviour, suspected exploitation, or potential human rights abuses directly with their line manager or a senior manager. Concerns may also be raised through our internal reporting and whistleblowing procedures. All reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled as sensitively and confidentially as possible.

Training and Awareness

We recognise that awareness and education are essential in preventing modern slavery. Where relevant to their roles, staff are informed about the signs of modern slavery and how to report concerns. Managers involved in procurement or supplier management are encouraged to consider modern slavery risks when making decisions and to apply our zero-tolerance principles in their day-to-day work.

Monitoring, Accountability and Annual Review

Responsibility for our modern slavery approach ultimately rests with the senior management of Gardeners Nunhead. They are accountable for ensuring that our policies are implemented effectively and that appropriate resources are in place to manage risks.

We are committed to continuous improvement. We will monitor the effectiveness of our measures and review this Modern Slavery Statement at least once every year, updating it as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, guidance, or our business activities. As part of the annual review, we will consider feedback from staff, suppliers, and other stakeholders, as well as any incidents, audits, or investigations that have taken place.

This statement has been approved by the leadership of Gardeners Nunhead and constitutes our Modern Slavery Statement for the current financial year.
